Are you dealing with hair loss? If so, you aren’t alone. While most people think of hair loss and immediately think that it’s a predominantly male issue, think again. Both men and women deal with this problem. In fact, about 40 percent of those dealing with hair loss are women. If you are embarrassed by hair loss and want to treat this problem for good, then find out how our Seattle, Spokane and Tacoma, WA, hair transplant surgeon, Dr. Robert Niedbalski, can help.
Early intervention is important, if you are at the beginning stages of thinning hair, you may benefit from ACell and PRP injection therapy. ACell+PRP is not typically used to treat advanced stages of hair loss unless the patient is also having a hair transplant surgery – this sentence should be rewritten to reflect the importance of early intervention.
What is ACell and PRP therapy?
ACell is a protein complex known for its regenerative properties and it also has been instrumental in repairing wounds and damaged tissue. When ACell is used in conjunction with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) it can also prevent hair loss and thicken miniaturized hair in both men and women.
PRP is found in your own blood and, just as the name suggests, it’s teeming with platelets, which promote faster and more efficient healing of soft tissue. While PRP has been used to treat serious musculoskeletal injuries, it can also increase hair growth.
How does it work?
Once we determine that you are an ideal candidate for this hair loss treatment, our Seattle, Spokane and Tacoma hair loss doctor will take a sample of your blood. The blood is placed in a special centrifuge which automatically separates the plates and plasma from the red and white blood cells – this is called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). While the ACell and PRP mixture is prepared for injection, a local anesthesia is applied to the scalp to reduce any discomfort from the treatment.
The entire treatment process takes around 90 minutes, and while you may notice some soreness at the injection sites over the next couple of days, the recovery is typically uneventful.
Who should consider ACell+PRP therapy?
Both men and women who are dealing with hair loss are potentially good candidates for this restorative hair treatment. Of course, early intervention is key to preventing further hair loss so it’s always a good idea to turn to us as soon as possible for treatment. Schedule a consultation with us today.

Who typically got hair restoration treatment and why they did isn’t all that surprising. 84.6% of patients needed treatment because of genetic hair loss, and men were 85.7% of surgical treatment patients. When it came to non-surgical treatments though, women made up 38.2%. And in 2016, more than half of both male and female surgical patients worldwide were between the ages of 30 to 49 years old.
The vast majority of surgical hair restoration treatments targeted the scalp, as you might expect, but between 2014 and 2016 worldwide the number of restoration procedures performed on non-scalp areas increased.
For men, 11% of procedures in 2016 targeted non-scalp areas of the body, including:
· The face (moustache/beard) – 4%
· Eyebrows – 3%
· Scar repair – 2%
For women during that time, 21% of procedures were on non-scalp areas of the body, including:
· Eyebrows – 15%
· Scar repair – 3%
If you are considering surgical hair restoration, you may be happy to know that 58.2% of patients reported only needing one procedure to reach their desired result. Another 31.3% only needed two procedures.
