Nonsurgical Hair Restoration
There are many nonsurgical hair restoration solutions that Dr. Robert Niedbalski of Northwest Hair Restoration may recommend if hair transplant surgery is not the right solution for you.
For example, surgery may not be the appropriate first step for you if you’re in the early stages of hair loss, in poor health, experiencing excessive hair loss, or have unrealistic expectations about hair restoration.
Nonsurgical options typically include a combination of medications (such as Rogaine® or Propecia®), nutritional supplements, laser treatments, scalp injections – such as ACell + PRP, AmnioFix, and stem cell therapies – as well as cosmetic cover-ups.
Medication and Other Options
For some, certain hair loss medications may slow or even stimulate new hair growth in male pattern hair loss. Two such treatments approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are Rogaine® (minoxidil) and Propecia® (finasteride), which may be used separately or in combination, as recommended by your doctor. Hair restoration products not approved by the FDA are often a waste of money and may actually be harmful.
Medication treatment is sometimes used as a complement to hair transplant surgery – because hair restoration efforts may have to be continued for some years to keep pace with progressive hair loss.
Non-medication options include cosmetic cover-ups, LaserCap, and nutritional supplements.
A number of nonprescription products offer to camouflage thinning hair. They are applied to the scalp and/or hair to give the appearance of hair fullness. All camouflage products are offered in a variety of colors to match natural hair color. Camouflage agents may be, for some young men, an acceptable short-term solution to improve cosmetic appearance while waiting for hair transplant surgery.
Northwest Hair Restoration carries LaserCap®, a tool for stimulating hair growth. Consistently applying laser therapy to the scalp will cause the hair strand to grow in thicker and extend the life cycle of the hair before it sheds. The result is an overall reduction in the appearance of thinning and improvement in the quality of hair growth.
The LaserCap has no side effects, is portable, offers hands-free use, and has custom sizing options. Ask us how this FDA-cleared device can be added into your hair restoration and preservation regimens.
